Email and calling the Etihad Live Animals (AVI) team.

Yes

Send a request with the desired date, origin and destination to the Etihad AVI team via email. The AVI team will then send a confirmation with the air waybill (AWB) number, booking information and details. The AVI team will then request documents for the grooms and the import permits which are required.

For the grooms we need Passport copy Courier application form (groom) We kindly advise that the agent is responsible for all the horse’s documents.

We recently shipped a very special consignment of show jumping horses from Belgium to Hong Kong for the annual Hong Kong Longines Masters, an annual event bringing together the world's top showjumping riders and horses.

Fifty two horses were accompanied by eight professional grooms and a veterinarian as they made the return journey from Liège Airport to Hong Kong. The Longines Masters horses were transported on a Boeing 777 freighter equipped with a specially designed ventilation structure and temperature control system, two vital components when transporting horses. It is also equipped with IATA-approved horse “air stalls”. Designed with non-slip floors which are covered with absorbent materials, the stalls are stocked with hay and water for the horses to remain hydrated throughout the flight.

A team of professional grooms and veterinarians handled the horses during loading, the flight – when they regularly visited their stalls to ensure they were comfortable and calm –and on arrival in Hong Kong, where they were transported to a bio-secure facility seven minutes’ drive from the aircraft.
